I am trying to change my companion to essential so they don't keep dying on me. However, the console command is not working for some reason.

U can use the creation kit to set the essential flag on any NPC u wish. That way they won't ever die. As for seeing who died.there is no way that I am aware of. That doesn't mean there isn't a way though. Maybe someone who has more savoir faire than me can figure it out. Skyrim on PC in 2017/18: Essential mods? Thread starter Omnipotent; Start date Dec 23, 2017; Forums. Note that if you don't use their normal craft versions and want it in the world like NPCs selling them you will need to make a bash patch with Wrye Bash to merge all of them otherwise if two mods conflict it will just load the. Usage of the 'setessential' console command is: setessential base ID - set a character (NPC) as immortal (1) or mortal (0). Note that the base ID and not the ref ID must be used. The ref ID is what appears when clicking on an object with the console open.

Skyrim set npc essential

The code:

should work (it has worked before with others), but when I type

it comes back to 0. I can confirm it's not working, because my follower is still dying, which would not happen if they were essential.

Why is it not working? What am I doing wrong?

I discovered that if I have them selected, and do this, then it doesn't work. However, if I make sure that nothing is selected, then if works. What I mean, is, in the console, when you have something selected, you can see the refID. If you can see any refID, then setessential will not work. It works if you have nothing selected.

From http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Console#Targeted_Commands :

Usage of the 'setessential' console command is:setessential <base ID> <1/0> - set a character (NPC) as immortal (1) or mortal (0).

Note that the base ID and not the ref ID must be used. The ref ID is what appears when clicking on an object with the console open. To find an NPC's base ID, however, you can either a) browse to their respective page (see: People and/or NPCs) or b) use the help function in-game to search for them by name, recording whatever value matches their name under the 'NPC_' category of result. Once you have the base ID, enter the command using either 1 to set him/her immortal or 0 to set him/her mortal. For example, setessential a2c8e 1 would set Lydia as immortal.

So I'm playing through a file where I'm roleplaying as a Thalmor Justiciar (shout-out to this awesome guide by /r/gingerdeer for giving me some ideas for mods to use). I'm running Interesting NPCs, and I want to make some quest essential NPCs killable (for context, I'm doing the Immortal Coil, roleplaying as if I'm infiltrating the Talos devotes as a Thalmor mole, I want to be able to kill Froa and Telthar when you return to the shrine and find the other devotees dead).

Skyrim Make Npc Non Essential

However, the usual ways to make essential NPCs mortal don't seem to work; the console commands do nothing (strangely it doesn't give any indication the command failed, but when Froa loses all her health she doesn't die), and most mods that make essential NPCs mortal only seem to work on vanilla NPCs, not modded ones.

Skee

Before anyone suggests it, yes, I did put the load order number in place of the XX in her base ID, and I do realize that certain essential NPCs in Interesting NPCs get flagged as non-essential after completing certain quests, but obviously for flavor and roleplaying reasons I want to be able to kill these guys (and NPCs in other quests) without doing them.

Any ideas?
