The Lord of the Rings is a licensed theme that was released in May2012. It's based on the movies by Peter Jackson,[1] which are in turn based on the books of the same name by J.R.R. Tolkien.

The theme's first wave was released in May and consists of seven sets, based on the whole trilogy of films, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King.

Between the first and the second wave of sets, LEGO The Lord of the Rings: The Video Game was released in November2012.

A second wave of sets were released in the summer of 2013, introducing 5 new sets.

Three fun packs were released in 2015 as part of LEGO Dimensions.

Description

The Lord of the Rings currently consists of one main theme, simply branded The Lord of the Rings, although it has three unofficial subthemes, each based on the film after which it is named.

Currently, six of the twelve sets (9469 Gandalf Arrives, 9472 Attack on Weathertop, 9473 The Mines of Moria, 9474 The Battle of Helm's Deep, 79006 The Council of Elrond, and 79008 Pirate Ship Ambush) focus on the heroes of the theme. The other six are 9476 The Orc Forge, which focuses exclusively on the orcs, 9471 Uruk-hai Army, in which heroes and villains are approximately evenly matched, 9470 Shelob Attacks, in which the evil spider Shelob is the primary focus, 79005 The Wizard Battle, where the focus is Saruman's Palantír and the battle between the two wizards, 79007 Battle at the Black Gate, which is mainly focused on Mouth of Sauron which the fiends of Mordor hide behind, and 10237 The Tower of Orthanc, where the primary focus is the tower of Orthanc, owned by the evil wizard Saruman. Almost all of the sets are location-based, with Gandalf Arrives and Pirate Ship Ambush being the only exceptions.

Most of the sets feature a base color of light grey, with dark grey added as an accent in the more naturalistic areas (Weathertop, The Mines of Moria and Shelob Attacks), and sand green being added to the architecture Rohan. Gandalf Arrives is made up of tan parts for the cart, with a dark grey saddle, reddish-brown wheels and a horse. The Orc Forge is mostly reddish-brown, with a base made of tan plates, and grey bricks of both shades.

A large amount of minifigures are introduced in the theme, almost all of which are coloured in naturalistic shades. Gollum is almost entirely tan, Legolas Greenleaf is sand blue, olive green, and reddish brown, all the hobbits wear simple colors, and the orcs are all printed in various shades of brown and green.

Background

The Fellowship of the Ring

Main article: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

The theme is based on the film trilogy by Peter Jackson, which is in turn based on the books by J. R. R. Tolkien.
The Fellowship of the Ring begins with Bilbo Baggins' 111th birthday. The celebration gives Bilbo the opportunity to give his old ring to his favorite nephew, a young hobbit named Frodo Baggins. This ring, which Bilbo took from Gollum on a previous adventure seems to have strange qualities, however. After Bilbo leaves to live with the Elves in Rivendell, the wizard, Gandalf explains that the ring is actually the One Ring, the most powerful ring of all the Rings of Power made, belonging to the Dark Lord Sauron, and used to dominate all the people of Middle-Earth. Now that Sauron is attempting to take Middle-earth once again, it must be destroyed to prevent him from using its great power.

Frodo left his home of the Shire with Sam, his gardener, upon a quest to reach Rivendell, and seek the Elves' advice in the matter.

The two were shortly joined by Merry and Pippin, two young friends of theirs, as they were running from a farmer they had stolen food from. The four were then pursued out of the Shire by three Black riders, and only escaped from them after crossing the Brandywine river. The travelers sheltered at an inn called The Prancing Pony. Under an assumed name, Frodo asked the bartender where Gandalf is; however, the bartender explained he had not seen Gandalf in months. The hobbits did not know what to do, and after Pippin accidentally revealed Frodo's true identity—he had been going under the alias 'Underhill'—Frodo fell. The Ring landed on his finger, and the Nazgul, drawn to its power, drew to attack Bree. Aragorn took Frodo upstairs, while the other three hobbits mistook him as a villain. Aragorn then explained them about the Nazgul, and the five left Bree.

Gandalf went so far as to meet with Saruman in Orthanc. However, upon arriving, it was revealed that Saruman had betrayed him. After a fierce battle, Gandalf had to choose between death and the transition to the other side. He jumped down from the top of Orthanc make it look like he died but the Great Eagles rescued him and brought him safely down.

With Aragorn's help, the hobbits narrowly escaped the Riders again, and continued to Rivendell. They are attacked once more by the riders at Weathertop, and although Aragorn battled them off with flaming torches, it was not before the Witch King stabbed Frodo.

With Frodo mortally wounded by the rider's enchanted blade, the five fled to Rivendell, and, before they reached there, they encountered the Elf Arwen, Aragorn's childhood friend and lover who sped Frodo ahead to Rivendell, attempting to outrace the riders. Arwen and Frodo finally escaped when she summoned a flood of water that swept their pursuers away. After waking up in Rivendell, re-encountering Gandalf, and realizing that Bilbo is still living there, Frodo, along with his comrades, attended the council of Elrond. There they meet Boromir the man, Legolas the Elf, and Gimli the dwarf. The council discussed the ring, and, Gandalf and Elrond reveal that the Ring can only be destroyed by the fires at the heart of the volcano Mount Doom, where it was forged. The council decides that a fellowship shall go out together in an attempt to reach Mount Doom and destroy the Ring. The full Fellowship of the Ring, consisting of Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas, Gimli, and Boromir, set off.

They are stopped by the magic of the wizard Saruman, and are forced to journey through the dwarven Mines of Moria. Unbeknownst to the Fellowship, the Dwarven company led by Gimli's cousin Balin were no longer living in the mines and the dwarves were long since dead as accounted by the last page in the book of Mazarbul. Pippin the hobbit, being careless, knocked a skeleton into a well which was attached to a shackle of chains that made a huge rattling throughout the mines, alerting the inhabitants to the Fellowship's presence. Enraged by the sad tale, Gimli, along with the rest of the Fellowship, took a stand against the now approaching Goblins and did combat with them and a Cave Troll. After being chased by a gigantic creature known as the Balrog, the party attempted to escape the mines. Gandalf seemingly defeated the Balrog by forcing it into an extremely deep crevasse, but was pulled in with it.

After the remaining Fellowship escaped the mines, the eight were separated by another battle. Merry and Pippin were captured by a band of Uruk-Hai, Boromir was killed by Lurtz, and Frodo and Sam decided to continue with the ring on their own, so as not to endanger their friends. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli pursued the Uruk-Hai that had taken Merry and Pippin.

The Two Towers

Main article: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

In the beginning of the second film, Frodo and Sam encountered Gollum, a corrupted hobbit-like creature who had craved the Ring ever since he had lost it. After capturing him, he grudgingly became their guide after Frodo threatened him with his sword, Sting. After this Gollum always called Frodo 'Master'. Gollum led Frodo and Sam through the Dead Marshes, to the very door of Mordor even, but then having turned back, the party was captured by Faramir. However, on hearing news of his brother Boromir's corruption at the hands of the Ring, Faramir lets them go, to accomplish their task.

How to mount with power iso without cd. Gimli, Legolas, and Aragorn continued their chase of the Uruk-hai that had taken Merry and Pippin. Shortly thereafter, they met the Riders of Rohan and their leader, Éomer, who told them that King Théoden of Rohan was possessed by Saruman, and had exiled him. The Riders had also, apparently, encountered a band of Uruk-hai, and killed them and supposedly the hobbits as well.

The pursuers then set off, and, after some searching, Aragorn found the hobbit's trail again, leading into Fangorn Forest. They did not find the hobbits, but encountered Gandalf, who had defeated the Balrog, and became the new white wizard, replacing the corrupt Saruman.

After the party rode to Edoras, Gandalf freed Théoden from Saruman's control, and Gríma Wormtongue, the king's former ally, and a spy of Saruman living in Edoras, is thrown out. Wormtongue then fled back to Saruman and Isengard.

The Uruk-hai then proceeded to launch an attack on Rohan, and the company, along with Théoden, his army, and his whole people, fled to Helm's Deep, and were there attacked by Saruman's army of ten thousand Uruk-hai, which, with aid from Éomer and the Riders of Rohan, they defeated.

Merry and Pippin turned out to have escaped from the Uruk-hai and met Treebeard, an Ent who saved them from Grishnákh, an Orc who followed the Hobbits into Fangorn Forest. After a long Entmoot, the Ents disagreed with Merry and Pippin's plan to attack Isengard. Soon after that, when Treebeard was carrying the Hobbits close to Isengard, as they wished, he discovered that the havoc Saruman had wreaked on their beloved forest. Afterwards, he called for the Ents, and they launched a successful attack on Isengard, almost utterly destroying it, and kept Saruman as a prisoner in Orthanc.

The Return of the King

Aragorn, Gandalf, and company, then proceeded to Isengard, where they met Merry and Pippin. Pippin found the Palantír of Orthanc and after seeing a vision of Sauron's plan in it, he and Gandalf rode to Gondor to warn the people of an impending attack.

The steward Denethor refuses because Aragorn rides with Rohan. Pippin lights a War Beacon, and around Gondor more beacons get lighted, until one is close to Edoras. Aragorn sees this, and tells Théoden that Gondor calls for aid. Théoden agrees and calls the Rohirrim. Meanwhile, Faramir retreats from Osgilliath. Madril was left behind and was killed by Gothmog. Faramir and an army of Gondorians are send on a suicide mission to reclaim Osgilliath. Everyone except an unconscious Faramir was killed in battle. Denethor thought Faramir was dead, and tried to burn him alive. Denethor then saw the titanic forces of Mordor destroying Minas Tirith. This drove him mad, and he commanded the Gondorian defenders to flee. Gandalf then subdued the mad steward and successfully rallied the defenders, using trebuchets to destroy the siege towers and trolls.Meanwhile, at the Rohirrim encampment, Elrond gives Aragorn the ancient sword of Andúril, forged from the shards of Narsil (Sauron's Doom) with which to win the allegiance of the Army of the Dead.

Pippin, with the aid of Gandalf, saved Faramir from a funeral pyre, and Denethor set himself on fire in rage and leapt off the pinnacle of Minas Tirith. The Orcs attacked Minas Tirith, and a mighty battle took place, with the assistance of the Rohirrim. But even then, the city was only saved by the timely intervention of Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, The King of The Dead and the army of The Dead on the ship of the pirates. Théoden was tragically killed by the Witch King, but Éowyn and Merry then killed him.

The victorious army then proceeded to the Black Gate , outside Mordor, in the hopes of distracting Sauron, so that Frodo and Sam can complete their mission. Instead of Sauron, someone else came, representing Sauron (Mouth of Sauron). Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Merry and Pippin finally managed to attract the attention of Sauron and destroy the Mouth of Sauron.

Frodo, Sam, and Gollum reach the Black Gate of Mordor, but cannot enter, as they are too heavily guarded. Gollum leads them up through a secret path into Mordor, but, after Sam grows suspicious of his action, tricks Frodo into abandoning him. Gollum then leads Frodo into the lair of Shelob, a gigantic spider, in the hopes that, once she killed Frodo, he could take the Ring. Sam fended off Shelob, but she still managed to inject Frodo with venom and cocoon him, which put him into a comatose state. Orcs arrived and brought Frodo to their tower, forcing Gollum to flee. Sam arrived at Cirith Ungol, finding most of them dead at their own hands, after arguing over Frodo's Mithril shirt. Sam then freed Frodo and together, they finally reached Mount Doom.

Frodo was about to destroy the Ring, but, realised that he couldn't. The Ring's power over him was too strong. It was at that point when Gollum ambushed them. Gollum took back the Ring by biting off Frodo's finger, but overbalanced on the edge of the cliff leading into the volcano's fiery interior, and perished, along with the Ring.

The destruction of the ring also caused Sauron's destruction, creating a massive earthquake, that eradicated the enemy forces on the plains of Gorgoroth, with only a few thousand members of Sauron's army escaping. Aragorn and the other members of the Fellowship survived this earthquake as well. The remainder of the Fellowship was thus reunited, and the hobbits returned to the Shire. Aragorn was crowned king of Gondor, with Arwen, Elrond's daughter and his lover long ago as his wife. Frodo wrote about his adventure in the remaining pages of the book about Bilbo's story but eventually set off with Elrond, Galadriel, Celeborn, Gandalf, and Bilbo to the Undying Lands and left Sam to finish the story.

Notes

  • The theme introduced a new piece to represent The One Ring. Also, new sword, shield, and helmet pieces for the Uruk-hai, Frodo Baggins' short sword Sting, the Ringwraith's capes, and a new horse mould in which the legs can move (like the Bear from City) were released. To represent the characters' proper hair and headgear, new pieces include Rohirrim helmets, Gimli's helmet, Elf hair/ears, Orc hair/ears, Hobbit hair, Gandalf's beard, the Cave Troll's entire mould as well as a Gollumminifigure.
  • Another new piece; a longbow wielded by such characters as Legolas, has yet to appear outside this theme.
  • A video game based on the film trilogy was released on November 13, 2012 called LEGO The Lord of the Rings: The Video Game.

Building Sets Based on Epic Film Trilogy and Forthcoming Theatrical Release Slated for 2012

Warner Bros. Consumer Products and The LEGO Group announced today a partnership that awards the world’s leading construction toy brand exclusive rights to develop build-and-play construction sets based on THE LORD OF THE RINGS™ trilogy and the two films based on THE HOBBIT™. The multi-year licensing agreement grants access to the library of characters, settings, and stories for THE LORD OF THE RINGS property, as well as films The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again.

LEGO® THE LORD OF THE RINGS construction sets are slated for a rolling global launch beginning in June 2012 in the United States, with LEGO THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY scheduled for later in the year.

“Only LEGO, with their expertise in the construction category, is capable of doing justice to the incredibly imaginative environments depicted in the world of THE LORD OF THE RINGS and the two films based on THE HOBBIT,” said Karen McTier, executive vice president, domestic licensing and worldwide marketing, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “These films give life to amazing worlds and characters and we are thrilled to bring fans these products that deliver an imaginative play experience befitting of these beloved properties.”

The LEGO THE LORD OF THE RINGS collection will translate into LEGO form the epic locations, scenes and characters of Middle-earth as depicted in all three films, including The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

In late 2012, LEGO THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY will give fans of all ages a chance to build and play out the fantastical story and new characters of the legendary Middle-earth adventures depicted in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey from Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson, slated to premiere December 14, 2012.

'Our collaboration with Warner Bros. Consumer Products has delivered numerous worldwide successes in the construction toy aisle with lines like LEGO HARRY POTTER and LEGO BATMAN, introducing us to loyal audiences who love great stories, strong characters and the toys that they inspire,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president, licensing and entertainment for The LEGO Group. “It’s particularly exciting to now be able to create sets based on the fantasy worlds and characters from THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy and the two films based on THE HOBBIT, not only because we know they will foster collectability and creative play, but also because these are two properties that our fans have been asking us to create for years.'

Information about the sets and collectible minifigures from both collections will be unveiled at a later date at TheLordoftheRings.LEGO.com.

Discussions about The Lord of the Rings

  • Lego The Hobbit Battle of the Five Armies

    • It really is a sin that Lego The Hobbit only adapted the first two Hobbit movies. Why bother starting something if you are not going to see..
  • Is it too late to expect Thor TDW sets? If so, reasons for no sets?

    • I think it's too late at this point - we already got this year's Marvel sets, and next year we're getting Age of Ultron and Ant-..
    • It's definitely too late. If only they had made any.. I really wanted a Sif fig..

The Mac OS X version was published by Feral Interactive and was released on February 21st, 2013.[1]

Lego Lord Of The Rings Sets

The game came out for iOS on November 7, 2013, almost a year after its regular release.[5]

On January 1, 2019,[6] the game, along with LEGO The Hobbit: The Video Game, were both removed from all digital online storefronts, including the PlayStation Store, the Xbox 360 Marketplace, and Steam, and are no longer listed on The LEGO Group’s website.[7] However, players who have previously purchased the game digitally are still able to access them. Physical copies are unaffected by this.[8]

Gameplay

The gameplay in The Lord of the Rings is slightly different than other LEGO games developed by TT Games. In the first sections, players move similarly to other games like LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game, running, jumping, fighting, and tagging. Then new mechanics are added, such as jumping to avoid attacks (in a manner similar to Super Mario Galaxy) and slow movement and rolls when sneaking past Nazgûl. In addition, in between levels are open world spaces that players run through, and beginning with The Two Towers, a path of players can be chosen before a level (i.e. Frodo, Gollum and Sam on one adventure and Aragorn and the rest of the Fellowship on another. Players also control larger characters (with other characters 'piloting' them, such as a cave troll or Treebeard).

Press Statement

This is a description taken from LEGO.com. Do not modify it.

Coming fall 2012

Based on The Lord of the Rings motion picture trilogy, LEGO® The Lord of the Rings follows the original storylines of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, taking players through the epic story events reimagined with the humor and endless variety of LEGO play.

Trusted with the dangerous task to destroy an ancient magical ring that threatens all that is good, Frodo is forced to leave his peaceful home. But the ring wants to be found and the road to Mount Doom, the only place where it can be destroyed, will be perilous and riddled with Orcs and fouler things.

To help Frodo, a Fellowship is formed — Aragorn the Ranger, Gandalf the Wizard, Legolas the Elf, Gimli the Dwarf, Boromir a Man of Gondor, and Frodo’s Hobbit friends Sam, Merry and Pippin. Players relive the legend in LEGO form, as they explore wonders, solve timeless riddles, and overcome endless foes in their quest to destroy the Ring.

LEGO® The Lord of the Rings complements the brand new, recently released LEGO® The Lord of the Rings toy collection, available summer 2012.

GAME FEATURES:
Explore all of the open-world of Middle-earth and experience epic battles with Orcs, Uruk-hai, the Balrog, the Witch-king, and other fearsome creatures.

Wield the power of the Palantír or Seeing-stone (‘one that looks far-away’), and jump between multiple storylines.

Experience the LEGO The Lord of the Rings heroes come to life in an all new way, as they deliver the dialogue from the films.

Collect, combine and forge new items in the Blacksmith Shop using Mithril, the most precious metal in Middle-earth.

Discover and unlock over more than 60 playable characters, including Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf, and many others.

Collect and use a variety of weaponry and magical items, including the Light of Earendil, Elven rope, swords, and bows.

Play with family and friends with easy access drop-in, drop-out gameplay option.

Movie/Game Differences

General

  • Sam, Merry, and Pippin are never seen to have matches, a fishing rod and a bucket respectively in the movie.
  • Like the movie, Gollum is good at climbing, but in the game he can climb absurdly steep walls like Spider-Man can.
  • Radagast only appeared in The Hobbit movies. Note that in the book he is mentioned only in the Council of Elrond.
  • Most of Denethor's scenes in The Return of the King are omitted but do appear in the portable version of the game.
  • The Grey Havens scene appears as a secret ending that completes The Return of the King story if the player manages to get a 100% completion of the game.

The Fellowship of the Ring

  • Elrond leading Isildur to Mount Doom and Isildur's refusal to destroy the One Ring were placed in the Prologue level while in the movie they appear as a flashback during a conversation between Gandalf and Elrond.
  • Bilbo's birthday is omitted in the game but it appears in the portable version.
  • Frodo finds the Ring during the birthday party in the movie but in the video game he finds the day after Bilbo left Bag End.
  • In the game, Frodo accidentally drops the Ring into a mug that reveals the Elvish script. In the movie, he sees the script after Gandalf burned the envelope that has the Ring inside.
  • Sam eavesdrops in a chimney instead of the window in the game.
  • Gandalf goes to Saruman after Frodo and Sam leave the Shire in the movie. However in the game, it takes place in the middle of the Hobbits' encounter with the Black Rider.
  • The Prancing Pony scene in the game has the Hobbits drinking their mugs and eating drumsticks as well as Aragorn blowing bubbles in his drink.
  • When Pippin asked Merry 'what's that?' in the game after seeing several drumsticks in a mug, he replies 'something for the road'. Merry says that line in The Return of the King.
  • In the video game after Frodo puts on the Ring, the Ringwraiths arrive at the Prancing Pony and Butterbur shows them where the Ring is, which turns out to be a trap when Aragorn locks them in the bathroom. In the movie, they show up at night and think they're sleeping in the room where they stabbed the beds while Butterbur frightengly tries not to make a sound.
  • There are two different versions of Frodo catching the Ring. In the movie, Frodo was about to warn Pippin not to say his name in front of the men of Bree when he accidentally knocked Frodo, causing him to trip backwards. In the game, Pippin knocks Frodo when he got up from the table to go grab some more drumsticks.
  • In the movie, Aragorn and the Hobbits arrive to Weathertop before nightfall. In the video game, they arrive at nightfall.
  • Pippin asks Merry and Sam 'what about second breakfast?' which led to Sam pulling out his frying pan. Second breakfast does not occur at night in the movie nor book. In the movie, he asks Aragorn about second breakfast before arriving to Weathertop.
  • After Frodo wakes up to find Sam, Merry and Pippin cooking while the fire is on, Merry says tomatoes, sausage and nice crispy bacon. In the game during the cooking puzzle, he, Sam and Pippin gathered an egg, fish and a tomato.
  • Sam says 'we're going to see the elves' when he finds out that Aragorn is taking him and the Hobbits to Rivendale. In the video game, he says it when Aragorn says that Frodo, who was stabbed by a Morgul blade, needs Elvish medicine to heal.
  • Frodo's eyes do not turn blue in the game after he was stabbed by the Witch-King, who stabs him in the armpit instead of his shoulder.
  • In the game, Aragorn, Sam, Merry and Pippin follow Arwen as she takes Frodo to Rivendell while fleeing from the Ringwraiths.
  • Instead of healing Frodo, Elrond used an instruction manual to rebuild him.
  • With the exception of Gloin, some parts of The Council of Elrond scene in the game are omitted but the line 'One does not simply walk into Mordor' appears as an achievement.
  • Sam, Merry and Pippin unlike in the game where they appear in their disguises, do not appear at the Council until after hearing Frodo volunteering to take the Ring.
  • Bilbo does not see the Ring in the game when he gives Frodo his Mithril shirt and Sting.
  • The fellowship never waited for Frodo to get done going to the bathroom in the Extended Edition as he was already there when Gandalf says the fellowship awaits the Ringbearer.
  • In the game, the fellowship does not enter the Mines of Moira until after they save Frodo from the Watcher but they do enter it in the movie before the creature appears.
  • Pippin never actually gets stuck in the well in the movie.
  • Boromir says 'they have a cave troll' when he hears it. In the game he says it when he sees it, and Aragorn pulls a 'stater of the obvious' face.
  • Aragorn does not use a bow in Moria. In the movie, he uses it in Balin's Tomb by shooting through small cracks in the door and he uses it several times in the Bridge of Khazad-Dûm.
  • When Gimli tries to leap, Legolas saves him by grabbing onto the beard but in the game Aragorn saves him from falling off the stairs.
  • Gandalf's battle with The Balrog from the beginning of The Two Towers is inserted near the end of the Mines of Moria level.
  • Pippin eats an apple while everyone mourns the loss of Gandalf.
  • The Mirror of Galadriel appears in the portable version of the game.
  • Aragorn does not receive his dagger from Celeborn in the game.
  • In the game, Frodo is the only one who receives an elven cloak. In the movie, every member (except Gandalf) receives one.
  • Frodo's Elven cloak also looks the exact same as his original cloak.

  • The 'toss me' scene is shortened.

  • Saruman is last seen when he is stabbed by Wormtongue and falls off of the top of Orthanc with the Palantir in the Extended Edition of The Return of the King (in the book he is killed by him in The Shire).
