Dye System And How It Works

The very first thing you must do to create dye is gather crystal and a small amount of iron.

To get started you need at least 6 crystal and 15 iron bars.

You will require blacksmith knowledge and fire bowl cauldron. WITHOUT these you CANNOT create dye!

Create a Glass Flask Mold at the Blacksmith bench to begin.

Place the glass flask mold into the furnace with your crystal and turn it on. The mold will not be consumed. (I have personally made 156 flasks with one mold to test if it has durability.)

Conversion rate of crystal to glass is 2 crystal = 1 glass.

Conversion rate of glass to glass flask is 3 glass = 1 glass flask.

Once you have a glass flask, you must find a water source and fill it by using it just like a water-skin.

Now is the time to gather ingredients, below is a list of what items make what colors and where to find them: (All amounts listed are for a single dye to be produced)

-Red is made using 1 Cochineal bugs. These are found when harvesting cactus.

-Cyan is made from 1 Glowing Goop. This is found at the bottom of Oasis and some rivers. (It glows at night)

-Green is made from 20 Plant fiber.

-Brown is made from 5 Seeds.

-Purple is from 1 False Mandrake. This is found in desert areas growing usually near the bottom of cliff faces. They are plentiful, bright, purple bushes. Northern Desert Dogs camp is a good spot to start.

-Grey is from 1 Grey-Flower Lupine. This is the most difficult to acquire as it grows on small rock outcroppings along cliff sides and is most often out of reach unless you build. There are a few scant locations it can be picked with just jumping skills, but those are fairly rare. The bush itself is a grey version of False Mandrake.

-Yellow is from 5 Brimstone.

-Orange is from 1 Orange Phykos. This is found at the bottom of most rivers and is rather plentiful. It looks like coral.

-Blue is from 1 True Indigo. This can be found plentifully in most lush areas such as along the southern river or in an oasis area. The plant has autumn brown leaves and blue berries.

-Light Colorant is from 5 Bone.

-Dark Colorant is from 3 Tar.

Once you have the water filled flask and your material ready, cook in the fire bowl cauldron, this will produce the dye as desired.

If you want to make the light or dark variant of any color, create the corresponding colorant just like you would dye, then combine the finished base dye color with the colorant in the fire bowl cauldron.
