Hello, in this tutorial I’ll explain how to create an ISO compatible with your PS3 in CFW. There are several programs that will let you do this like genps3iso and PS3 Iso tool. In this tutorial I will use PS3 ISO TOOL.

You will need :

A PS3 in CFW
A PS3 game backup
The PS3 ISO TOOL 1.98B program that you can download here : https://www.mediafire.com/?dix17gd4zdd0j6l

How to proceed :

How do I decrypt a PS3 ISO without a jail broken PS3? I have a bluray drive for my desktop and it can read PS3 discs with no problems. I already have the IRD file for my game BLUS30161 (Eternal Sonata). I created an ISO image from the disc using Imgburn. I have PS3-ISO-Rebuilder 1.0.4.1 downloaded. PS3 play Blu-ray video file as a normal Blu-ray disc. Power on your PS3 and boot up to the menu. Plug the USB flash contains the Blu-ray movie into the USB drive of your PS3. You can find the USB drive in the front of PlayStation 3 video game console. It is in the bottom left corner of the device. Burn PS3 games to Blu-ray disc Select video game files, click the 'Create' button, then PS3 game to Blu ray disc burning progress begin. When the burn is done, turn on your PS3 and go to the package file and install the PKG file. Now insert the burned disc into your PS3 tray, then launch the game from the newly appeared icon.

Download PS3 ISO TOOL 1.98B program and extract it.
Put two explorer windows side by side on the screen, one on the left, the folder with the PS3 game backup, and one on the right with the PS3 ISO TOOL program. Do a drag / drop directly from the left window to the right directly into makeps3iso.exe (You have to drag the folder called for example BLESXXXXX that contains all the game files).
It’ll automatically convert your backup into iso (leave the work, and of course, the higher your backup is heavy in weight, it will be longer to complete).
Your backup is converted into iso
You just have to put your iso backup with an external hard drive or via the network with FileZilla in: /dev_hdd0/PS3ISO/exemple.iso
You can now run your iso backup from Webman.

NOTE : You can use the program in its GUI version, which means in graphical windows interface.

Create an iso (it also allows to rename your iso, very useful example: BLESXXXXX- [Example])
Cut an iso
Change an iso
Extract an iso
Join several iso
Patch an iso

How to install a backup in iso format a hard drive to NTFS?

An External Hard Drive in FAT32 format is not compatible with your iso backup via WEBMAN except with as backup manager such as Irisman.

We can install a backup in iso format on an external hard drive formatted in NTFS, you just need to create a folder you named “PS3ISO” (you can add, PS2ISO, PSXISO) and put your backup in iso : External HDD / PS3ISO / exemple.iso

Then just download prepNTFS (https://www.mediafire.com/?fzq2bu6dy047ggw) and install it in your PS3.
Run once prepNTFS from xmb. There will be a black screen (do not worry this is normal (Prepare NTFS must be launched every time you add or remove one or more backup from your external hard drive).
Go to the menu MyGames / PLAYSTATION 3
And you will see your backup. Start it.
You’ll see appear under the icon MyGames a Virtual Disk Drive (Fake BR).
Go to this icon and press X, it will launch your backup.

Not sure if any of you are as paranoid as me about data loss but, in the 15 years I've worked in IT, I've seen enough hard drives fail for no reason that I keep as many backups as I can! Anyway I've recently backup up both my Xbox 360 and PS3 drives and found it wasn't as straight forward as I thought it would be...so I thought I'd share this guide.

What you'll need:

1 x PC or Laptop, any OS or capacity is fine
1 x external hard drive (AC powered, not USB powered)

This is an easy backupto do. First you may need to setup your external drive though. If you think your drive is ok skip ahead to the backup procedure.

Plug the external drive into your PC

If you're using a Mac OS:

Launch Disk Utility
Click the external drive on the left hand side
Click the partition button at the top
Select your volume scheme (1 partition, 2 partitions, etc.) on the left
Change the names, volume sizes, etc. and, when done, click Apply

If you'reusing a Windows OS:

Open Computer Management (Start > Run > compmgmt.msc)
Click Disk Management on the left side
Identify your external hard drive.
NOTE : It is vital you perform the following actions on your external hard disk drive only. If you do it on a system disc you will probably be unable to easily restart windows.
Create a new volume and partition by right clicking the drive and selecting the appropriate option.
NOTE : It is advised you create the partition slightly larger than your PS3 drive. So, if you have an 80gb unit make the partition size 100gb. Do not make any partition larger than 1tB or this process will not work.
Take note of the drive letter that the system assigns the drive.
When prompted to format the drive choose to leave it unformatted.
Download and install the HP USB Disk Storage Tool (http://www.eocfiles.com/bdc86eb1ed2989c30dcd1902e84939ae/bootdisks/SP27608.exe)
Double click the 'HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool' icon on your desktop. If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will need to right click this icon and select 'Run as administrator'
Select the drive identified in step 5 above.
Ensure the file system is FAT32
Give the drive a label if you like (e.g. PS3_Backup in the below example)
Tick Quick Format and pressStart

EDIT : I've received messages from people getting a write protected error here. If you get this ensure you have closed the computer management snap-in we opened in step 1.

NOTE : For those who do not wish to install software you can open a command prompt (Start > Run > cmd) and typeformat /FS:FAT32 Z: to format the disk (where Z: is the drive letter assigned to your external drive). This is very slow and restriced to 32gb partitions however.
