Command And Conquer 3 Crash On Startup

Hey,
I recently built a new pc to play C&C Generals but I am unable to play do to frequent crashes to desktop or the message 'A serious error has occured'. things that I have done:
Clean install win2k
Installed AGP driver
Installed direct x 9
Installed video drivers (CAT 3.2)
cant play
Cleaned install win2k
Installed AGP driver
Installed direct x 9.0
Installed video drivers (CAT 3.0)
cant play
Cleaned installed win2k
did same thing with direct x 8
cant play
tryed xp in place of 2k
cant play
Ran prime95 for 8 hours with no errors. Looped Sandra for 12 hours no errors. Ran hot cpu for 3 hours no errors. Looped ATI demo for 9700 for 2 hours no errors.
Nothing is over clocked. Checked for voltage spikes and dips and saw none. The 'serious error' and crash to desktop do not happen after a set time. Checked for Bios updates and there was only one minor one. Tryed to disable features in the ATI settings and that didnt help(actually made it worse).
I have read the ea support forums for over 20 hours now and am sick of the place. So anyone have any ideas?

Video Card - ATI Radeon 9700 PRO
Mother Board - Gigabyte SINXP 1394 (SIS 655 chipset)
Processor - P4 2.4 ghz
Memory - 512mb DDR 3200 Mushkin Ram x2
Hardrive - WD 80gb 8mb cache

Guys I had the same problem, it seems that video codecs cause it.
I managed to fix by changing names of following files:(Revora forum helped me)
Go into your Commandos IIDATAWOFIP folder and rename the following files like this (for eg.):
DATAEI.pop -> DATAEI.pop.old
DATALE00.pop -> DATALE00.pop.old
DATARO.pop -> DATARO.pop.old
It skips intro now but works just fine!
Alternatively you can install other codecs. More info in Revora Forum Commandos 2 not working topic.

Commandos 2 crashed at startup
compatibility mode doesn't solve.
I fixed it enabling 'Direct Play' in windows functionalities (legacy section)
